To paraphrase Mark Twain, reports of the Airbus A380’s demise are greatly exaggerated.

Deutsche Lufthansa AG on Monday announced it will reactivate some of its super jumbo jets that were mothballed during the COVID pandemic because of the recent sharp rise in travel demand and the delayed delivery of ordered aircraft, such as the Boeing 787 and 777-9.

Airbus tests biofuel on A380 for first time

European aerospace manufacturer Airbus said Monday it has performed a first flight of its extra-large A380 aircraft powered by 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), part of an ongoing series of efforts underway to help airlines get to carbon-neutral emissions by midcentury.

The test aircraft took off from Blagnac Airport in Toulouse, France, on Friday with one of four Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines on 100% SAF. The flight lasted three hours.

Korean Air jettisons passenger seats to up cargo capacity

Projections that the capacity shortage in air cargo could last into next year and beyond are prompting some passenger airlines to spend money removing seats to make room for more boxes of goods.
