Analysis: DSV – flipping coins after 150 days of extravagance

Let’s get the DSV coin rolling with a bit of worthwhile background before deciding whether a heads or tails strategy works best for the Danish forwarder.
Two weeks ago
Tarek Sultan, Kuwait’s Agility CEO and vice chairman, said in the prepared remarks contained in the new group’s interims that for the current Agility – hence excluding Agility Global Integrated Logistics (GIL) – shareholders “we believe our best days lie ahead.”
He added, following …

Hyliion hunkers down as EV startup stocks get hammered

Its stock is trading in the single digits after giddy investors bid it above $50. Production is still a year away. But Hyliion Holdings CEO Thomas Healy sees reasons for optimism around the company’s natural gas-electric hybrid system for Class 8 trucks.

Hyliion (NYSE: HYLN) went public just months after Nikola Corp. (NASDAQ: NKLA), which became the first high-profile reverse merger of 2020. Retail investors bid up Nikola shares on potential over profits. Though it never reached Nikola’s $93.99...

M&A radar: Who’s next?

That’s the most recurring question in our logistics circles, mainly spanning: targets for the logistics integrators (no concrete rumours so far); which freight forwarder is soon to be targeted (several unreliable suggestions, but some obvious names stand out); an apparent lack of combinations elsewhere in container shipping that brings only hypothetical scenarios to the fore (one is particularly explosive, but the fireworks are for another time).
So here’s a shortlist of some …

Pandemic takes a bite out of Agility volumes, but logistics arm profits rise

Agility Global Integrated Logistics (GIL) reported a 35.2% increase in third-quarter ebitda on the back of “significant cost reductions” and increased revenues in air freight and contract logistics.
Its third-quarter ebitda was recorded at KD18.5 m ($60.5m), while net revenue for the period was KD71.4m, representing 5.1% year-on-year growth. GIL gross revenue was KD305.7m, a 7.3% increase on same period in 2019.
However, the increases in air freight and contract logistics were …

Global trade declines, but freight forwarders experience mixed fortunes

The coronavirus pandemic led to an 11.6% year-on-year contraction in air and sea freight forwarding volumes in the first half of the year.
Global trade suffered from the double-blow of reduced factory output in China and then the subsequent fall in demand as social lockdowns were ordered.
According to new analysis by supply chain consultancy Transport Intelligence (Ti), the air freight sector bore the brunt of the declines, with the global market …
