Supply chain radar: ‘Maybe it is all a show’ – Panalpina’s largest shareholder rejects DSV’s Sfr170 a share proposal

Here is a quick back-and-forth chat with my source Mr Arbitrageur after news emerged on Monday that the Ernst Göhner Foundation, “Panalpina’s largest shareholder representing approximately 46% of the total share capital, informed the board of directors that it does not support the current non-binding proposal from DSV and that it supports Panalpina’s board of directors in pursuing an independent growth strategy that includes M&A.”
“According to its fiduciary duties the board …

Brexit could also be a threat to 1.7m in Cambodia

Just when you thought you knew all the winners and losers of Brexit… here’s another one: Cambodia. A study conducted by the German Development Institute claims Cambodia will be among the losers. According to The Guardian, the South-east Asian nation has tariff-free access to the EU under the Everything But Arms agreement (EBA). The EBA provides this perk for the 49 nations defined as the least-developed. And the study’s authors …

Ceva stays bullish after a ‘year of change’, but its future remains unclear

As Panalpina’s key shareholder, the Ernst Göhner Foundation rejected the “current” non-binding proposal from DSV, all eyes turned to Ceva Logistics.

The release was offered “in the context of the launch of a proposed offering of $825m”, related to the likely change of control stemming from CMA CGM’s public tender offer.
While there …

Supply chain radar: Possible scenarios after DSV’s Sfr4bn takeover of Panalpina

One sometimes has to abandon trying to add value to a particular debate because even if you achieve your very best, you cannot match the insights of your executive industry sources.
It happened to me this week.
Allure & premium
While delving into the synergy potential of the combined DSV+Panalpina (PAN) entity, aiming to get more than Dkr1bn out of the combined entity, excluding tax considerations, I became embroiled in separate conversations with two of the …

Prepare for no-deal Brexit, transport sector is advised, after Commons vote

Businesses should prepare for a no-deal Brexit, some specialists advise after last night’s convoluted and non-binding vote in the UK parliament.
“I’ve never felt more like betting on a no-deal,” said Sandra Strong, of Brexit adviser Strong and Herd, at the MIQ Logistics Knowing Brexit seminar in London this morning.

Supply chain radar: CH Robinson’s formidable results show the extent of the problem for 3PLs

The right dose of financial engineering is often used by US-based 3PLs to boost shareholder value, and 2018 was no exception for CH Robinson, which opened the earnings season for asset-light T&L firms on Tuesday, showing that cash returns to shareholders and a solid operating performance were a winning combo in the past 12 months, when it delivered record annual results.
