Western Global Airlines orders 2 Boeing 777-8 freighters

Boeing and Airbus on Wednesday issued dueling announcements about new customers for their respective next-generation large freighter programs.

Boeing (NYSE: BA) said that Western Global Airlines has placed a firm order for two of the manufacturer’s new 777-8 freighters. Airbus said Etihad Airways signed a letter of intent for seven of its all-new A350 widebody freighters and that Singapore Airlines had locked in a tentative order for seven A350 cargo jets.

CMA CGM Group committed to stop transporting plastic waste overseas starting in June.

During the One Ocean Summit last week, container shipping company CMA CGM committed to stop transporting plastic waste overseas beginning in June. 

The Marseille, France-based company shipped approximately 50,000 twenty-foot equivalent units of plastic waste from developed countries to Southeast Asia in 2021, CMA CGM Group told FreightWaves. That adds up to about 500,000 tons of plastic waste sent to countries that didn’t produce it.

DHL Express to add 6 A321 converted freighters operated by SmartLynx

Latvian contract carrier SmartLynx Airlines is adding six Airbus A321 converted freighters, bringing the total number of the aircraft type in its fleet to 14 in 2023. Sichuan Airlines to receive 1st A330 converted freighters built in China

Two Chinese carriers have committed to lease Airbus A330 converted freighters that will be produced in China by aerospace manufacturer Elbe Flugzeugwerke (EFW), a joint venture between Airbus and Singapore’s ST Engineering.

Ceres, JAXPORT agree to 20-year lease of container terminal

Ceres Terminals will lease and operate a 158-acre container facility at the Dames Point Marine Terminal at JAXPORT in Florida for the next 20 years.

JAXPORT’s board of directors, which oversees the port in Jacksonville, Florida, unanimously agreed to the $60 million deal between Ceres and the port in which Ceres will modernize the TraPac Jacksonville container terminal.
