Ford plans to invest $273M at Mexico plant to produce EV drive units

Ford Motor Co. says it will invest $273 million to convert its plant in Irapuato, Mexico, to the production of primary drive units for the company’s Mustang Mach-E electric vehicles.

The plant in Irapuato previously produced transmissions for gasoline-powered vehicles. The switch to producing the primary drive units for the Mustang Mach-E includes manufacturing the electric motor and the transaxle of the vehicle’s propulsion system.

Ford to build new Bronco Sport SUV in Mexico

The Ford Bronco, the company’s iconic offroad SUV, returns after a 24-year production hiatus, with the sport edition slated to be produced in Mexico.

Ford (NYSE:F) will begin manufacturing the Bronco Sport SUV in October at its Hermosillo plant. The Bronco Sport will join vehicles such as the Ford Fusion, Ford Fusion Police Responder and Lincoln MKZ, which are produced at the 34-year-old plant in northern Mexico.

Tesla gets tax break for proposed $1 billion factory in Austin, Texas

With a key tax break from a local school district, Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) is one step closer to building an electric pickup truck plant in Austin, Texas.
