BNSF lists sites in Iowa, Kansas as primed for industrial development

BNSF and coal exporter reach settlement

Western U.S. Class I railroad BNSF and coal producer Navajo Transitional Energy Co. (NTEC) have reached a settlement on NTEC’s claims it needs more service from BNSF to export coal.

They told the Surface Transportation Board in a Thursday filing to postpone further action on the dispute until Jan. 8, 2024, which is when they expect the settlement to be concluded.

BNSF’s Q3 net income drops 15% on lower revenues

Declining grain exports and competition from lower spot rates in the trucking market were among the factors that led BNSF to post a 15% decline in net profits for the third quarter of 2023.

UP still working to restore tracks in Yuma subdivision

Portions of Union Pacific’s Yuma subdivision in California are still offline following Tropical Storm Hilary, but “progress continues to be made” to restore the tracks, UP said in a Tuesday service update.
