An offshore worker was injured in a fire incident on Monday, October 14, on board the Taqa’s Tern Alpha platform in the North Sea, located about 90 nm to the northeast of the Shetland Islands in the UK, leading to a temporary production shut-down.

Five dead onboard cargo ship due to Typhoon Hagibis

The Chinese Embassy confirmed to Xinhua that five Chinese crewmembers died, three are missing and four have been rescued from the Panama-registered vessel that sank in Tokyo Bay, Saturday October 12.

Navy of the Dominican Republic refloats grounded cargo vessel

The cargo vessel Habib Express which ran aground off the Beata Island in the Dominican Republic in late September, was refloated on October 7, according to Dominican Republic Navy. The Tanzanian-flagged vessel was sailing from Miami, Florida, to the port of Haina when its bow beached on September 11.

Cargo ship runs aground in French nature reserve

A cargo ship ran aground on October 13 in a marine reserve in the Strait of Bonaficio, off Corsica, France. No oil appears to have been spilled, according to the maritime police said, but anti-pollution measures are being deployed.

Two workers die at shipbreaking yard in Bangladesh

Two workers lost their lives at a shipbreaking yard in in Bangladesh, on Saturday, October 12. According to local sources, the probable cause of the deaths may have been that they inhaled toxic gas.

Thew two workers fell ill after inhaling toxic gas, and were transported to the hospital for treatment. However, they eventually died.

Cargo leakage from Iranian tanker stopped

Lessons learned: Master injured after falling into opened hatch

In its latest Safety Digest, the UK MAIB describes an accident of a Master’s injury onboard a tug, which was caused by miscommunication and not proper sharing of information. The Master fell through a hatch which was open while contractors were conducting operations.

Bulk carrier runs aground in St. Lawrence Seaway

The Canadian-flagged self discharging bulk carrier ‘RT Honorable Paul Martin’ ran aground on the American side of the St. Lawrence Seaway, near Cardinal, Ontario, on 6 October, the Canadian Coast Guard announced.
