Lines impose more rate increases on Asia trades

Hapag-Lloyd has announced a peak season surcharge (PSS) from Northeast Asia, which comprises China, China/Hong Kong, China/Macau and China/Taiwan, to Sydney, Australia taking effect today, 23 September (departure date).

The new PSS will be applied to all cargoes as follows:

  • US$300/20’
  • US$600/40’

Additionally, the German carrier will increase rates for all cargoes and all container types from East Asia to South America East Coast with effect from 1 October 2020 as follows:

  • US$700 per Container

World’s Largest LNG Bunker Named By Total

The world’s largest LNG bunker barge, to be used by French energy producer Total to refuel CMA CGM’s giant new gas-fuelled box ships, was officially named Gas Agility at a ceremony in Rotterdam, reports Ship & Bunker.

The barge has 18600 m3 of LNG carrying capacity, is owned by Mitsui OSK Lines subsidiary Emerald Green Maritime and will be chartered by Total Marine Fuels Global Solutions.

CMA CGM raises Asia to Europe rates

CMA CGM has announced its intention to raise rates on the Asia to Europe trades from the 1 October.

Freight of all kinds (FAK) will be reviewed on or before the 14 October, said the line. The new rates are as follows:

  • Origin Range: From all Asian ports, including Japan, Southeast Asia and Bangladesh.
  • Destination Range: To all Northern European ports, including UK and the full range from Portugal to Finland/Estonia.
  • Cargo: Dry cargo, out of gauge cargo, paying empties and reefer cargo.
