APL launches new West Asia service

APL, part of the CMA CGM Group, has introduced the new West Asia Express 6 service (WA6). The new weekly WA6 is set to facilitate trade between the Asian and Middle Eastern economies.

APL says the new service will offer direct connectivity from Xiamen to the Middle East and will facilitate import to and export from Kaohsiung. Shippers with Hamad and Sohar bound cargoes will soon be able to leverage WA6 as an alternative freight option, according to the company.

CMA CGM applies new Turkey PSS rates

CMA CGM has announced the following Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) applicable until further notice from Turkey to several destinations.

Effective from 1 April 2020 (date of loading):

  • From Turkey (all ports)
  • To Mombasa in Kenya, Tanzania (all ports), Mogadishu in Somalia, Mozambique (all ports), Madagascar (all ports), Comoros (all ports), Port Victoria in Seychelles and Male in Maldives
  • Cargo: dry, OOG, Breakbulk
  • Amount: US$ 200 per 20′ | US$ 200 per 40′

CMA CGM launches new JEDDEX service

CMA CGM Group has introduced its new JEDDEX service, connecting the Middle East with East Africa. The new service will be a relay service from/to Northern Europe, West/East Mediterranean and Red Sea via Jeddah and will be fully operated by the French carrier.

Imports from US East Coast are proposed as well in relay, according to the company.

Shipping companies cancel reefer surcharges for Chinese ports

Container lines are cancelling the implemented surcharges for reefer containers that had Chinese ports as destinations, taking into consideration that the congestion caused by COVID-19 eases.

Specifically, according to Hapag-Lloyd, the congestion in Chinese ports has eased, berthing operations have improved and the terminals have resumed to normal working conditions.

The reefer plug availability has also improved so that the company does not have to divert cargoes on a large scale anymore.
