Chinese shipyard delivers final BV-classed CMA CGM boxship in series

Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore (BV) has successfully delivered CMA CGM Tiga, the last of ten 5,500 TEU container ships built for CMA CGM at CSSC Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding.

This marks the completion of a major project for which BV provided classification services and Bureau Veritas Solutions M&O provided advisory services, helping to ensure compliance with international safety, structural integrity and environmental protection requirements as well as maximizing performance.

CMA CGM increases rates from Asia to Canada

CMA CGM has introduced a Rate Restoration Initiative (RRI), set to take effect from May 1, for shipments from the Canada West Coast to China, Hong Kong & Macau SAR, Northeast Asia, and Southeast Asia.

The new rates will apply to dry containers, with open top, flat racks, and tank containers excluded from the Initiative.

Under the RRI, the rates will be increased by US$50 per 20′ container and US$100 per 40′ & 45′ containers.

CMA CGM applies overweight surcharges on India, Middle East, and Red Sea routes

French ocean carrier CMA CGM has announced new overweight surcharges (OWS), which have been effective from 1 April.

In particular, CMA CGM applies an OWS of US$100 per dry container with a gross weight over 15 tons from the India West Coast to Berbera, Somalia & Massawa, and Erythrea.

CMA CGM sues Houston supplier over contaminated bunker fuel

French shipping company CMA CGM has filed a lawsuit against GCC Supply & Trading, an oil & natural gas company based in Houston, in a Texas court, seeking over US$5 million in damages over an alleged case of contaminated bunker fuel dating back to 2023.
