John O’Leary, the CEO of Daimler Truck North America, has had his contract extended through 2026. The head of the Supervisory Board of Daimler Truck Holding AG called DTNA the company’s benchmark for performance.

O’Leary became CEO in April 2021, succeeding Roger Nielsen. Daimler Truck separated from parent Daimler AG and became a stand-alone company in December...

Truck Tech: Who’s on first edition

Autonomous trucking is a far weightier topic than baseball, the subject of the famous “Who’s on first?” Abbott and Costello comedy classic. Determining the positions of truck makers and autonomous software developers might be more watchable than even rule-shortened games in the new MLB season.

Bosch will supply key components to Daimler-Volvo fuel cell joint venture

German automotive supplier Robert Bosch will make and sell air compressors to Cellentric, the fuel cell joint venture of Germany’s Daimler Truck AG and Sweden’s Volvo Group AB.

Trucks and stationary fuel cells for data centers and other high-power installations are several years away. But Cellentric is beginning to contract for the major components it will need for mid-decade production. Air compressors govern the fuel-cell system’s oxygen supply.

Hydrogen-powered fuel cell commercial trucks are...

Daimler Truck, soon to be freed from Daimler AG (OTC: DDAIF), reported improved sales and profits in the first quarter after enduring the beginning of the pandemic-induced shutdown of manufacturing a year ago.

The global shortage of semiconductor components used throughout vehicles could impact sales  in the current quarter. But Daimler didn’t offer specifics. In North America, Daimler Trucks has protected larger, more profitable truck production by taking rolling downtime at medium-duty plants...

Is heavy-duty fuel cell trucking almost ready for prime time?

Here’s what we know about hydrogen-powered fuel cells for heavy-duty trucking:

  • They are not in commercial production.
  • Onboard hydrogen storage is far less efficient than battery-powered trucks.
  • Heavy-duty truck fuel cell adoption is projected to be just 2.5% by 2030.
  • Battery-electric truck proponents call fuel cells unflattering names.

.None of that has changed. Yet, something seems different.

For starters, car and truck makers and Tier 1 suppliers are investing billions of dollars in fuel cell...
