5 ways to increase driver loyalty with rewards programs

While hiring drivers is a continuous pain point for the trucking industry, keeping those drivers is arguably more important and even more difficult to accomplish.

As carriers seek ways to reduce turnover, rewards programs have become a popular way to incentivize drivers to stay. What carriers are doing to weather the storm

A collapse in volumes, an overabundance of carriers in the market and rising operational costs have tested transportation providers’ endurance. All the while, companies continue to combat deep-rooted issues that plague the industry, especially the ongoing driver shortage.

But it’s not all doom and gloom. If history and past trucking cycles tell us anything, the market will inevitably recover. Meanwhile, companies can use this time to reassess operations and make preparations that will better...

Is Washington stepping up for truck drivers?

Chronic underutilization of American truck drivers — not a truck driver shortage — was the central theme of testimony by David Correll, a research scientist and lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Center for Transportation and Logistics, before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on Nov. 17, 2021.

Correll is co-director of the MIT FreightLab

Correll told lawmakers that based on his research team’s analysis of trucker ELDs, he estimated that American...

Tenstreet offers 1-stop shop for hassle-free hiring

Hiring is always a hot topic in trucking. The industry has struggled to keep trucks filled for years, and pandemic-fueled labor shortages have only made that task more daunting. While hiring and turnover rates are expected to reach something of an equilibrium across all industries in 2023, openings remain elevated.

As consumer demand wanes and capacity loosens, carriers will have less money — and energy — to funnel into hiring. Finding an intuitive solution that works, regardless of market...

Companies must see drivers as human beings, not commodities

A truck driver

Most of the factors impacting the supply chain today – shortages, fuel prices, consumer expectations – are more or less uncontrollable. One of the industry’s most infamous ills, however, is somewhat less mysterious.

Driver recruitment and retention issues plague companies across the transportation space, making it difficult to keep trucks outfitted with highly trained, experienced drivers. Organizations have rolled out hundreds of financial incentives to get drivers in seats, but the real...
