Will ‘connecting neighborhoods’ disconnect trucking?

Buried in the U.S. House and Senate versions of highway reauthorization legislation currently being negotiated are provisions that would allow billions of dollars to be spent dismantling portions of the interstate highway system without replacing the lost transportation capacity.

The provisions — “Reconnecting Neighborhoods” in the House version, “Reconnecting Communities” in the Senate — reflect the Biden administration’s goals of using infrastructure funding to address historic racial and...

Truck transportation job growth — cause for celebration or concern?

March’s truck transportation employment figures can be viewed as a glass half full or half empty — both perspectives have merit.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), total jobs in March were recorded at 1,482,700, up 3,300 from February’s tally — a sign that things are headed in the right direction.

On the other hand, March’s figures totaled 33,500 fewer truck transportation jobs than last March, just as the industry was on the precipice of the pandemic — a sign that we may...

A Washington state district judge has denied a request by truckload carrier Western Express to dismiss a lawsuit filed by a former employee who has accused the company of failing to pay him for overtime wages as well as for meal and rest breaks.

Slowing freight demand reduced line item costs to operate a truck in 2019, according to the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI).
