Duluth’s terminal expands container capabilities

The Clure Public Marine Terminal at the Port of Duluth has expanded its capacity space and is now capable of handling larger volumes of containers transported by vessel.

Minnesota’s terminal expansion will augment the existing road and rail intermodal container services under the Duluth Cargo Connect banner, which is a working partnership between Duluth Seaway Port Authority and Lake Superior Warehousing.

Ingrid Uppelschoten Snelderwaard will begin her new role as the Svitzer A/S global chief operating officer on Dec. 1.

She currently is the global head of equipment and a VP at Maersk. She will replace Leonardo Sonzio, who will be moving on to become Maersk’s head of fleet operations, Svitzer said.

Career Tracks: Höegh and Elemica get new CEOs

Andreas Enger will become the chief executive officer of Höegh Autoliners on Sept. 8.

Current CEO Thor Jørgen Guttormsen will continue to support the company as non-executive director and senior adviser.

Enger has served as Höegh’s chief financial officer since September 2019 and worked closely with Guttormsen on the company’s strategy and operating model.

Duluth’s fast growing leads to expansion project

People had expected traffic at Duluth’s new shipping container terminal to grow, but not as fast as it actually has, said Kevin Beardsley, chief financial officer for the Duluth Seaway Port Authority.

The facility, which shuttles large steel shipping containers back and forth between trucks and trains, opened in late March of 2017, and it’s already in need of more capacity.
