DNV Awards First Class Notation And AiP For Data Driven Verification Of Dynamic Positioning (DP) Systems

The TechnipFMC vessel

Høvik, 16 June 2022: DNV has awarded vessel owner, TechnipFMC, its first class notation for Data Driven Verification (DDV) of Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems. In addition, Kongsberg Maritime’s Dynamic Positioning Digital Survey (DPDS) has been awarded an Approval in Principle (AiP) under the DDV notation and was the software system used in the data driven verification process for the DP systems that have been tested onboard Deep Star.

Simulator technology: Game changer for floating offshore wind?

Aiming to revolutionize the U.K.’s floating offshore wind (FLOW) sector, the University of Plymouth and Kongsberg Digital are joining forces.

They plan to provide project teams and crew with facilities to verify, test and optimize installation and maintenance projects, using Kongsberg Digital simulator technology to provide a synthetic offshore wind environment in real-time.

Key to this project is a state-of-the-art Kongsberg dynamic positioning (DP) simulator that will soon be installed at the...

MOL To Install Simulator With Dynamic Positioning System At MOL Head Office

Simulator With Dynamic Positioning System At MOL Head Office

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) and MOL Marine & Engineering Co., Ltd. (MOLMEC) announced that a Dynamic Positioning (DP) Simulator with a Dynamic Positioning System (DPS) will be installed on the ground floor of the MOL Head Office in June. This is the group’s first adoption of a DP simulator in addition to a shiphandling simulator that MOLMEC already operates.

Sea trials of new Silversea cruise ship include an unusual world first

Royal Caribbean’s Silversea Cruises brand is preparing to take delivery of its new ship Silver Origin, following a remarkable display of resilience and ingenuity by its builder, the De Hoop shipyard in Lobith, Netherlands.

The ultra luxurious 100-passenger, all-suite ship, which will operate Galapagos itineraries, recently concluded sea trials that included a remarkable world first, the ship being operated remotely by an engineer in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Before the vessel could start sea...

The technology group Wärtsilä has received type approval for its SceneScan position reference system by the DNV GL classification society. As the world’s first laser-based targetless relative dynamic positioning (DP) reference system, SceneScan represents a paradigm shift from conventional DP reference systems.

It can work without the need for pre-placed positioning targets, thus providing significantly greater operational flexibility than with conventional systems. Furthermore, since it doesn’t...

Kongsberg Maritime conducts training to decrease DP incidents in offshore industries

Kongsberg Maritime conducted a a tailored DP (dynamic positioning) emergency scenario training course for SAIPEM’s employees at the Kongsberg Maritime training centre in Kongsberg, Norway. SAIPEM decided to put all their pertinent crews through the course. Overall the series consists of ten courses.

Specifically, DP is a state where a vessel’s heading and position are automatically managed by computer-controlled inputs to the craft’s thrusters and propellers.

Also, DP has been proved to me...
