The National Transportation Safety Board says that fatigue and complacency led to the Washington State Ferries (WSF) passenger and car ferry Cathlamet striking a mooring structure, or dolphin, at a Seattle ferry terminal last year in an incident that WSF described at the time as a “hard landing.”
The NTSB says that “hard landing” contact resulted in $10.3 million in damages to the vessel and $300,000 in damages to the dolphin, somewhat more than WSF’s initial estimate of $7.7 million.
