General Average Declared on Burnt Boxship

General average has been declared on the 8,586 teu ZIM Charleston, with Splash sourcing the first public image of the burnt vessel. General average security will be now required from all cargo interests prior to the delivery of their cargo.

General average (GA) has now been declared by charterers on the 8,586 TEU container ship, ZIM Charleston, which suffered a fire incident on 8 August.

Haian City owners declare general average, fears about destruction of cargo in 180 boxes

The owners of the 1,400 TEU container vessel, Haian City, which suffered an accident on 14 April, have declared general average, while the ship reached Karnaphuli dry dock for damages repair.

VIDEO: Boxes start to come off Ever Forward

Removal of cargo containers from the grounded containership Ever Forward got underway this past Saturday. The 1,095 feet long,12,118 TEU Evergreen Marine vessel has been bogged down in mud in Chesapeake Bay since March 13 and the boxes are being taken off in an attempt to lighten the vessel before a further attempt to refloat it is made. Three earlier attempts to refloat it using a combination of dredging and tugboat power failed.

Ever Forward: Evergreen declares General Average

A third attempt to refloat the grounded containership Ever Forward was made yesterday. It failed and the ship remains aground in Chesapeake Bay.

Today, shipowner Evergreen Marine said that, “in light of the increasing costs arising from the continued attempts to refloat the vessel,” it had declared General Average (GA).
