The Indian Ports Association (IPA) has appointed Tech Mahindra as the service provider for a new digital service package at the five major ports of Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Deendayal and Paradip. New Assam ro-ro service gets underway

The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has started a new ro-ro operation in collaboration with the Government of Assam, to improve connections with Majuli Island. The idea is to reduce the time required for road haulage transport which at present has to use a 400km road route, via the Tezpur Road Bridge. By contrast the use of the river route by ro-ro ships requires a distance of less than 13km.

24 workers have died in South Asian shipbreaking yards in 2018

In its quarterly update, NGO Shipbreaking Platform reported that a total of 113 ships were broken in the Q3 of 2018, and 79 of these ships were sold to the beaches of South Asia for dirty and dangerous breaking. Greek fruit producers to expand to the Asian Market

Greek fruit producers, predominantly apple growers, have been sending trial fruit shipments to India following a request they made in 2015 to expand to the Asian market. India, France to launch satellites for maritime surveillance

India and France announced their plan to launch satellites aimed for maritime surveillance, as French space agency CNES chief Jean-Yves Le Gall informed. The satellites will focus on the Indian Ocean and they will constitute India’s largest space cooperation with any country.
