After days of explosion on the cargo ship CSSC Cape Town in Gibraltar, 2 injured seafarers still remain critical while repairing of the ship is almost done.

4 crew of the 19 member Hong Kong registered vessel were injured in the blast. Of them, 2 were critically injured and were taken to the Seville Burns Unit. They are still fighting for their life. The Gibraltar Government confirmed that repairing of the ship is now complete.

A cargo vessel arrived in port to load wind turbine tower sections. The deck crew held a safety briefing prior to loading. By this time, it was dark and the vessel’s deck working lights were on, illuminating the area where the crew were working.

Following the safety briefing, a seaman used the vessel’s forward crane to remove the cargo hold ventilation duct space hatch cover so that the cargo hold hatch cover lifting gear could be retrieved.

A vessel was preparing to depart. The Master and pilot decided to use the ropes which were already reeved on winches from casting off for making fast the tug. The aft mooring team did not challenge this decision. After lowering around 45 metres of rope to the tug, one of the two ropes given to the tug was found to be wedged in the section coiled on the winch and was not paying out freely.
