According to Danish Ship Finance (DSF), the IMO’s Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) which became effective this year is a “failed market mechanism” that should be replaced by a voyage index that will give shippers more transparency.

Seven candidates for Secretary-General of International Maritime Organization

Seven International Maritime Organization (IMO) member states have each nominated a candidate for the post of Secretary-General of IMO to take over duties from Kitack Lim, which will step down on 31 December 2023.

The IMO Council at its 128th session, in December 2022, approved the procedures for holding the election of the Secretary-General at the July 2023 session of the Council (C 129).

IMO to develop updated plan for shipping greenhouse gas emissions cut

An International Maritime Organization (IMO) working group has gone forward in developing the draft 2023 IMO Strategy on the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from ships.

Νew IMO regulations to support container freight market recovery

The limited increase in ship supply driven by the new International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations is expected to contribute to the recovery of the shipping freight market in the medium and long term, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence.
