J.B. Hunt sees normal seasonality in Q3

J.B. Hunt Transport Services beat third-quarter expectations Tuesday, sending shares 7% higher in after-hours trading. The multimodal transportation provider saw stabilized, and in some cases improving, trends across its service offerings as it prepares for “an eventual turn in the freight market.”

J.B. Hunt (NASDAQ: JBHT) reported earnings per share of $1.49, which was 8 cents ahead of the consensus estimate but 31 cents lower year over year.

Morgan Stanley cuts earnings expectations amid surging insurance costs

Morgan Stanley cut earnings estimates for all the transportation companies it covers on Tuesday, citing rising insurance costs. It continues to believe the truckload space will be the most impacted as large jury verdicts remain a threat.

3rd Nikola battery-electric truck catches fire

A third Nikola battery-electric truck caught on fire in Arizona, but the company said the recalled trucks are still safe to drive with precautions including parking outside and away from structures and leaving the main battery disconnect switch in the “on” position until the truck is repaired.

The fire on Monday at Arizona Lithium in Tempe started in the battery pack where fires in June and August also originated. No injuries have been reported in any of the fires.
