Air France-KLM doubles order for Airbus A350 freighters

Air France-KLM said Friday it will order four additional A350 widebody freighters from Airbus. 

The planes will be operated by subsidiary cargo airline Martinair on behalf of Dutch carrier KLM and will replace four Boeing 747 cargo jets currently operated by KLM Cargo and Martinair. The planes will be based at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, the company said.

Deliveries to Air France-KLM-Martinair are expected in the second half of 2026.

Cargo-in-cabin innovation remains popular for some airlines

Passenger aircraft dedicated purely to cargo operations have played an important role during the pandemic in delivering critical humanitarian and commercial supplies, as well as generating revenue for cash-strapped airlines when travel plummeted.

KLM: 1.500 απολύσεις στον ορίζοντα

Η KLM, ο ολλανδικός βραχίονας της Air France-KLM, ανακοίνωσε ότι θα περικόψει 1.500 επιπλέον θέσεις εργασίας στο πλαίσιο αναδιάρθρωσης, βάσει του οποίου χρειάζεται να μειώσει τις εκπομπές κατά 50% έως το 2030 καθώς και να προετοιμαστεί για την ανάκαμψη της επιβατικής κίνησης μετά την κρίση του κορονοϊού.

KLM gets EU blessing for Dutch emergency aid

The European Union on Monday approved a 3.4 billion-euro ($3.8 billion) financial support package, backed by the Netherlands government, to help national champion KLM get through the coronavirus crisis.

The Dutch aid is on top of 7 billion euros ($7.9 billion) in funding granted earlier this year by France for sister carrier Air France.

U.S. airlines cancel Hong Kong flights over crew testing

United Airlines (NASDAQ: UAL) and American Airlines (NASDAQ: AAL) have temporarily suspended flights to Hong Kong after the city imposed invasive COVID-19 testing on all arriving crew members.

The first round of mandatory aircrew tests found four cases of infection, including three pilots working for Hong Kong Air Cargo, a unit of Hong Kong Airlines, who had just returned from Almaty in Kazakhstan, according to the South China Morning Post.
