DNV – Maritime CEO sees shipping industry struggle to meet climate targets

The shipping industry, as well as the whole world, has great difficulty in achieving the climate goals set by the Paris Summit, according to Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen, CEO of DNV – Maritime, who spoke at a press conference of his company today (3 June) in Piraeus, Greece.

The answer to the problem is initially the further strengthening of innovation and at the same time, the extensive cooperation to find solutions, according to DNV – Maritime leader.

New DNV rules include “Fuel Ready”

In the latest updates to its rules for ship classification, DNV has released multiple new class notations to help the maritime meet the challenge of decarbonization challenge. The include “Fuel Ready,” a notation that gives shipowners the option to prepare for a later conversion to multiple different alternative fuel options, and “Gas fueled ammonia” for ammonia fueled vessels, to stay ahead of shipping’s ever tightening carbon reduction requirements.
