CMA CGM Inks Largest Newbuild Order Worth $2.3bn

CMA CGM made the largest single containership order in China’s shipbuilding history, with the construction of 22 containerships worth around $2.3bn, reports Platts.

French liner major CMA CGM said April 30 it has ordered 22 new ships to be built, including 12 that will be powered by LNG.

CMA CGM signed the newbuilding contract with China State Shipbuilding Corp. for 2023-24 delivery.

CMA CGM launches a first low-carbon shipping solution, bringing the Group a step closer toward carbon neutrality, says a press release published on their website.

Launch of Asia’s First ship-to-containership LNG Bunkering

Singapore is now able to provide liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering to larger LNG-powered vessels.
This is attributed to the launch of the first ship-to-containership bunkering operation in Asia on Wednesday.
The bunkering operation involving the containership CMA CGM Scandola and Singapore’s first LNG bunkering vessel, the FueLNG Bellina, began around 4am on Wednesday.

World’s Largest LNG-Powered Vessel To Sail Soon

Global shipbuilding giant Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) builds a very large container ship powered by LNG for the first time in the world.
A trial run of the ship that is 366 meters long and 51 meters wide has recently been completed.
The vessel with a capacity of 14,800 TEU will be delivered to Singapore’s Eastern Pacific Shipping on Sept. 15.
Hyundai Heavy Industries Group has won contracts to construct 44 LNG-powered bulk carries, tankers and container vessels.
