Port of Alaska modernization project update

The construction of the five-part Port of Alaska (Anchorage) modernization project began in 2020 and is still well underway, with an expected completion date of 2028. Currently, the project’s first phase has been completed, and the total cost of the project could reach as high as $1.8 billion.

San Pedro Bay ports to slap charges on carriers for containers that stay in terminals

In an attempt to improve cargo movement amid congestion and record volumes, the San Pedro Bay, Calif., ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles are to assess a surcharge to ocean carriers for import containers that remain too long on marine terminals.

JAXPORT car carrier fire contained but not out

Fire officials in Jacksonville, Florida, say the blaze aboard the Höegh Xiamen has been contained but not extinguished.

The fire was reported on the seventh deck of the car carrier shortly after loading operations were completed at JAXPORT’s Blount Island Marine Terminal at about 4 p.m. Thursday. An explosion reportedly occurred about three hours after firefighters responded and the fire spread to other decks.
