Galveston Bags $1m Grant for Shore Power Pilot

Galveston Wharves was awarded a $1m grant for a shore power pilot project in partnership with Texas A&M University at Galveston, reports OceanCrew.

The goal is to reduce emissions from cargo shipping at the Port of Galveston, however cruise vessels there may benefit from the findings.

Biden earmarks $236M to complete Texas ship channel projects

More funding is on the way for several ship channel improvement projects in Texas, which aim to attract larger tanker and container vessels to the Texas Gulf Coast.

The Port of Corpus Christi ship channel improvement project was included in President Joe Biden’s proposed $5.8 trillion spending plan for the 2023 fiscal year announced Monday. How did the 1900 hurricane forever change the Texas shipping industry?

On Sept. 8, 1900, a Category 4 hurricane smashed on shore in Galveston, an island city of about 38,000 people on the Gulf Coast of Texas. 

The hurricane had maximum winds surpassing 135 miles per hour and a storm surge that inundated as much as a third of the city with 5 to 12 feet of water.

US Gulf ports to offer liquefied natural gas fueling option for ships

As more maritime shipping vessels gradually turn to liquefied natural gas as an energy solution over concerns about the environment, several projects along the U.S. Gulf Coast aim to provide LNG fueling operations for ships and tankers.
