Belgium presents digital customs platform to simplify e-commerce

As Belgium wants to simplify the import and export of goods, it introduced the BE-GATE customs platform on 6 June. The portal, which was designed for the growth market of e-commerce, aims to increase the efficiency of customs clearance in the cross-border flow of goods.

BE-GATE was developed as part of the initiative of the Belgium Customs and Excise Department. The new platform is  supported by four  e-commerce hubs, the ports of Antwerp and Zeebrugge and the airports of Brussels and Liège.

Port of Everett to receive new cranes

A barge with a pair of 100-foot-high cargo cranes will dock at the Port of Everett next week, after conducting a 1,400-mile ocean journey from Los Angeles. By the end of the year, they cranes will become part of the Port’s working waterfront.

The cranes are planned to become the Port of Everett’s second pair of workhorses at the South Terminal dock. According to sources, the cranes will be offloaded next week.

Ban Lifted After Sewage Discharge into Durban Harbour

Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has provisionally lifted its suspension of fishing, commercial diving and other marine activities in the Port of Durban which had been applied after sewage was discovered flowing into the port from the eThekwini Municipality’s sewer reticulation system.

Harbour Master at the Port of Durban, Captain Sabelo Mdlalose, said TNPA and the eThekwini Municipality had been working tirelessly to restore safety to the port waters.

APM Terminals Algeciras to increase its tractor fleet

APM Terminals Algeciras, one of the largest container terminal in the Mediterranean, is renewing and increasing its fleet of terminal tractors. The company has began introducing the new Terberg YT222 model, which features better ergonomics, safety and environmental impact.

The 116 new tractors will all arrive in July this year, increasing the current fleet by 14 units.

Ports should prepare for autonomous transportation
