Perpetrators pretended to be stevedores rob bulker in Cam Pha, Vietnam

In its weekly report for 27 November- 3 December, ReCAAP ISC informed of one incident of armed robbery against ship in Asia, involving the Panamanian-flagged bulk carrier ‘Alpha Bulker’ while at anchor in Cam Pha loading anchorage, Vietnam.

Pirates attempt to attack ship in Gulf of Aden

In its weekly report for 6-12 November 2018, ReCAAP ISC noted that there were no reports of piracy and armed robbery against ships in Asia. The report however included an attempted incident outside Asia, involving the Singaporean-flagged tanker ‘Po Yang Hu’, while underway in the Gulf of Aden, in the early morning hours of 2 November.

January-October 2018 saw the fewest piracy incidents in 10 years

Three armed robberies against ships in Batangas anchorages reported last week

During 30 October-5 November, four incidents of armed robbery against ships in Asia were reported to ReCAAP ISC. Of the four incidents, three occurred at anchorage areas in Batangas Bay, Philippines. ReCAAP ISC reports 64 piracy incidents in Asia since January

According to the latest ReCAAP ISC report on piracy in Asia, a total of 64 incidents of piracy and armed robbery against ships were reported in Asia during January-September 2018.

Namely, of these 64 incidents, 3 were incidents of piracy and 61 were incidents of armed robbery against ships. Comparing this incidents to January-September 2017, there was a 3% increase in the total number of incidents reported during January-September 2018.

Pirates board Maersk container ship in Ecuador

According to a report by ReCAAP ISC, perpetrators boarded the container ship ‘Maersk Newbury’ at Guayaquil River in Ecuador, on October 2. The perpetrators assaulted one of the crew, but all of the crewmembers escaped and took hide.
