Maersk has announced its intention to unify its brands by integrating Hamburg Süd and Sealand.

The Danish shipping company believes that by integrating the aforementioned firms into the Maersk brand, it will be able to ease its customers’ logistical difficulties. “We realise that our current brand structure doesn’t reflect the way our customers have their supply chain structured, and the need they have for end-to-end visibility and ability to drive outcomes,” said Maersk in an advisory.

Maersk’s Sealand commences new Spain-UK rail service

Maersk’s subsidiary specialised on Intra-European logistics, Sealand will launch a new rail product from Spain to the United Kingdom, designed for temperature-sensitive cargo like fruits and vegetables.

The new service will initially have three weekly departures from Valencia terminal to Barking terminal in East London. The trains will not carry only reefers, but will also transport non-refrigerated cargo on their southbound journey from the UK back to Spain.

Sealand partners with APRIL Group for a weekly direct service in China

Maersk’s subsidiary, Sealand has partnered with the global pulp and paper manufacturer APRIL Group to provide a new direct service from APRIL Group’s terminal in Futong, Indonesia, to China.

This direct service circumvents the transhipments and schedule reliability challenges in their former route, offering improved efficiency in the ocean transport leading to more cost-effective logistics and an improved equipment cycle, said Sealand in its announcement.

Shanghai Jinjiang Shipping expands Vietnam offerings

Shanghai Jinjiang Shipping (SJS), primarily a domestic Chinese liner operator, has joined other carriers in enhancing its Vietnam services.

The company, a subsidiary of Shanghai International Port Group, has purchased slots from Maersk Line’s intra-Asia unit, Sealand, on services IA98, IA68 and IA2 so that it can carry cargoes between China, Vietnam, Japan, Thailand and Hong Kong.
