An Egyptian appeals court said it lacks jurisdiction to look into the Suez Canal Authority’s demands to uphold financial claims that led to the seizure of the cargo ship that blocked the waterway in March, reports US News.

SCA calls for parties in Ever Given dispute to negotiate and co-operate

The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) claims it has called on all the parties to co-operate in the Ever Given legal dispute with its chairman and managing director, Osama Rabie, confirming in a statement the authority is willing to negotiate with the vessel owner, Shoei Kisen Kaisha Ltd, and insurer, UK P&I Club.

Rabie noted that “the authority is being flexible to all the special requirements of the negotiations while adhering to what the international norms stipulate in such cases.”

Ever Given Seized Over Financial Disputes

Egyptian authorities impounded a massive cargo vessel that blocked the Suez Canal last month amid a financial dispute with its owner, the canal chief and a judicial official said Tuesday, reports AP News.

Compensation

Lt. Gen. Osama Rabie said the hulking Ever Given would not be allowed to leave the country until a compensation amount is settled on with the vessel’s Japanese owner, Shoei Kisen Kaisha Ltd.

“The vessel is now officially impounded,” he told Egypt’s state-run television late Monday.
