SC Ports marks record January for box volumes

South Carolina Ports Authority saw steady container volumes in January, with strong year-over-year increases in the vehicle, cruise and inland ports segments.

SC Ports moved 211,020 twenty-foot equivalent container units (TEU) across the Wando Welch and North Charleston container terminals in January — the highest January ever for TEU volumes. SCPA has handled 1.44 million TEU thus far in fiscal year 2020, from July through January.

SC Ports proceeds with new container terminal construction

The Hugh K. Leatherman Sr. Terminal is taking shape along the Cooper River as South Carolina (SC) Ports Authority prepares to open the new container terminal in March 2021.

SC Ports celebrated on 31 January the structural completion of the terminal’s new operations building. SCPA sells Daniel Island property

S.C. Ports Authority is selling an approximate 106-acre property on Daniel Island. The land, identified as the North Island Tract, is situated between Seven Farms Drive and the Cooper River. It sits within Berkeley County and the city of Charleston.

S.C. Ports Authority says it has worked in recent years to sell real estate that does not support or house port operations. The proceeds of the land sale will support S.C. Ports’ infrastructure projects and operational needs, according to the release.

SCPA, DHEC receive $2M grant to improve crane technology

South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA) and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) were awarded a $2 million grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) grant program to upgrade the engines of 12 rubber-tired gantry (RTG) cranes.
