Led by Louisiana General Attorney General Liz Murrill, the attorneys general of 16 states have filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Louisiana challenging the pause on pending approvals of LNG export projects announced by the Biden administration in January.

Attorney General Murrill calls that move an “unlawful decision to ban new liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports.”

The new 69,000 square foot (6,400 square meter) facility is connected to the existing manufacturing operations at MTU Aiken. It brings formerly outsourced workshop and warehouse operations in-house and expands them to provide remanufacturing and overhaul of MTU Series 2000 and Series 4000...

SC Ports’ fiscal 2023 ‘a much more typical year’ following cargo boom

Container volumes at South Carolina Ports slipped by about 10% year over year when comparing fiscal year 2023 with 2022, but they were up by about 1% from 2021, the port authority reported.

Fiscal 2022 volumes were fueled by pandemic spending, which in turn produced an “unprecedented cargo boom,” SC Ports said Tuesday. But fiscal 2023 was “a much more typical year” compared with other years historically.

Volumes handled at the Port of Charleston complex totaled nearly 2.6 million twenty-foot...

February volumes soften at South Carolina Ports

Despite a year-over-year decline, last month’s volumes were the second-highest ever for February for South Carolina Ports.

Container volumes at the Port of Charleston totaled 201,418 twenty-foot equivalent units and 111,118 pier containers, down 13% from February 2022, the port said Monday. Volumes also fell from January, when SC Ports handled 215,238 TEUs and 118,179 pier containers.

But despite the dip, February’s container volumes “were stronger than typical.” A slowdown in consumer spending,...

South Carolina Ports posts record cargo volumes for 14th consecutive months

A container ship sails pass a grassy marsh.

April was another record-breaking month for South Carolina Ports and the terminals at the Port of Charleston.

April’s volumes were the highest April ever for containers handled, driven by sustained retail imports, which were up 34% year-over-year, SC Ports said Tuesday.

Meanwhile, SC Ports is “making significant progress with terminal and berth fluidity amid ongoing supply chain challenges,” the port authority said. As of Tuesday morning, only two vessels were at anchor and waiting to berth....

A number of projects are already underway to reach this goal, port officials said. About 400,000 TEUs of capacity was just added at the Garden City Terminal, which will add an additional 820,000 by June, while a new upriver container yard will yield another 500,000 TEUs in capacity. These projects will add...

A photograph of rows of intermodal containers.

South Carolina Ports reached another record in November, achieving an all-time high for the number of containers handled in a single month.

November’s volumes, which account for both boxes measured in twenty-foot equivalent units as well as pier containers, beat the previous monthly container record set in March.

SC Ports handled 250,711 TEUs in November at the Wando Welch, North Charleston and Hugh K. Leatherman terminals at the Port of Charleston, the South Carolina Ports Authority said. The...
