Trucker caught with handgun, meth at US-Canada border, CBP says

An American trucker headed to Canada with a load of produce was caught with a loaded handgun and methamphetamine in his cab in an unusual discovery made during an inspection at the Ambassador Bridge border crossing, authorities said on Tuesday.

The 36-year-old driver, whose name wasn’t released, was detained on Friday night after border officers searched his cab during a routine outbound inspection, said Kris Grogan, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesperson.

Ottawa police arrest Freedom Convoy protesters in hopes of ending 3-week blockade

After arresting at least two organizers of Freedom Convoy protests on Thursday, police in Ottawa, Ontario, stepped up their arrests on Friday in hopes of breaking up the three-weeklong disruption in the Canadian capital.

US-Canada border crossing in Alberta reopens after protesters pull out

The U.S.-Canada border crossing at Coutts, Alberta, reopened on Tuesday after protesters ended a two-week blockade that had disrupted millions of dollars in trade. 

The Canada Border Services Agency reported that normal operations resumed. Videos shared on social media showed a convoy of semi-trucks and other vehicles driving away with their horns blasting.

Delta Air Lines suspends some Canada cargo shipments because of protests

Delta Air Lines said late Friday it has extended restrictions and stopped accepting all products at Detroit Metropolitan Airport destined for Montreal and Toronto because of limited access to roadways and bridges into the cities resulting from trucker-led protests over the Canadian government’s pandemic mandates.
