Ship Carrying Ammonium Nitrate Stalled At Indian Port

The Indian port of Visakhapatnam suspended berthing of MV Kraszewski, a 20,000-tonne freighter on Wednesday. Port officials said that cargo handling operations would resume only after getting clearances from different governmental departments.

Authorities at Vizag are now in fear due to the previously stored 18,000 tonnes of Ammonium Nitrate, the same chemical responsible for the Beirut blast which consequently flattened half of the Middle-Eastern port city.

Ship Catches Fire In India, Port Officials Avert A Catastrophe

Port officials at the Q5 berth of the Visakhapatnam Port Trust West averted a minor fire that broke out in the port vicinity.

A coastal vessel, the BD51 which was anchored in the Indian port city caught fire on Saturday.

Port officials were quickly notified about smoke rising from the cabin of the ship, which resulted in officials taking early precautions to avert the danger.

Watch: Fire Breaks Out In Offshore Support Vessel ‘Coastal Jaguar’; 28 Crew Members Rescued, 1 Dead

On 12 August, the offshore support vessel ‘Coastal Jaguar’ caught fire at Vizag Harbour. At around 11:30 am (IST), the crew reportedly jumped into water-saving themselves from the dense smog the fire generated.

Out of 29 crew members, 28 were rescued. One remaining crew member’s body has been found after searching for hours. Few suffered severe burns and reportedly were under treatment in ICU according to sources.
