VIDEO: Navier to launch pilot Bay Area e-boat shuttle service

Foiling electric boats are getting a lot of attention worldwide as the zero-emission, high speed, water transit solution of the future. The race is on to get the first of the vessels into actual service and San Francisco based foiling e-boat start-up Navier aims to be an early front runner. It is to pilot zero-emission water shuttle services in the Bay Area in partnerships with e-payment infrastructure specialist Stripe.

At launch of this initial program, planned for March 2024, Navier will...

Labor, climate costs loom large for trucking in 2024

WASHINGTON — While election-year politics may gridlock Congress from passing meaningful truck-related legislation in 2024, the potential for a change in administrations could be a catalyst for finalizing two regulations that have major cost and operational implications for the industry.

Proposed rules to tighten standards for independent contractors and on carbon emissions from heavy trucks — both of which are undergoing final review at the White House — also fit squarely within the...

Fuel cell-powered mining trucks next up for GM Hydrotec

An array of fuel cell power cubes from General Motors will power Komatsu’s massive off-roading mining trucks by mid-decade — each operating with more than 2 megawatts of hydrogen power.

The use of multiple fuel cells to provide power to the massive off-highway Komatsu’s 930E electric drive mining truck is an ideal use case for fuel cells, whose only emission is water vapor. The Komatsu model is the world’s bestselling ultra-class haul truck.

GM and Komatsu will jointly design and validate the...

Maersk Supply uses Inmarsat API to optimize performance of battery-fitted AHTS

An Inmarsat Maritime solution will help Maersk Supply Service optimize the performance of its first vessel fitted with a battery installation, the AHTS Maersk Minder, and to evaluate how best to optimize the use of zero-emission energy storage systems across its fleet.

Inmarsat Maritime’s Fleet Data IoT platform will enable Maersk Supply to use the Fleet Data end-user API to seamlessly gather data from onboard equipment, automatically organize it with time-stamps, synchronizes it, and upload it...

Daimler Truck’s GenH2 sets single-hydrogen-fill run record

BERLIN — The hydrogen-powered Mercedes-Benz GenH2 fuel cell semi returned to the German capital where it was introduced as a prototype three years ago. This is time it completed a record 650-mile (1,047-kilometer) overnight journey on a single fillup of liquid hydrogen.

Traveling the autobahns from Woerth am Rhein, the home of Daimler’s massive truck manufacturing complex that produces 500 primarily diesel trucks a day, to the German capital proved far easier than the final mile. A large red...

Lagging Policy Support And Rising Costs Jeopardize Hydrogen Projects

Interest in new hydrogen projects remains strong, but a challenging economic backdrop means timely rollout of policy support is needed to deliver investments, sources IEA.

Low Emissions Hydrogen

Momentum behind low-emissions hydrogen continues to grow despite the slow roll-out of financial incentives and stubborn cost pressures that threaten to delay projects, a new IEA report says today. But production levels can still increase substantially by 2030 if all...
