ArcBest deploys Nvidia’s AI technology on its autonomous forklifts

Transportation and logistics provider ArcBest said it is using technology from Nvidia to “bridge the gap” in human-robot interactions during freight handling.

ArcBest (NASDAQ: ARCB) said the use of semiconductor engineer Nvidia’s (NASDAQ: NVDA) Isaac Perceptor provides enhanced safety and efficiency when handling materials on a warehouse floor. The AI technology provides exact depth perception and improved 3D occupancy mapping as it captures more than 16.5 million 3D points per camera every...

ArcBest again swaps freight for better yields in February

ArcBest continued to execute a freight swap during February, replacing transactional shipments with more freight from key accounts. The actions led to another decline in tonnage, which was mostly offset by higher yields that are supportive of margins, a Friday filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission showed.

The company’s asset-based unit, which includes less-than-truckload operations, reported a 3% year-over-year (y/y) decline in revenue per day during February, an improvement...

ArcBest launches autonomous, remote-controlled forklift technology

ArcBest announced Tuesday the launch of autonomous forklifts and reach trucks that can also be operated remotely. Vaux Smart Autonomy is an extension of the company’s other warehouse freight management technologies.

The autonomous mobile robot units are paired with software, allowing human operators to control them remotely. Mode settings for the units also allow autonomous and manual operations. Sensors and cameras allow the units to navigate a warehouse floor to load and stack pallets and to...

Auction moves 2nd lot of Yellow terminals

A second lot of Yellow’s terminals have found new homes, according to a Wednesday filing in a Delaware bankruptcy court. The latest auction for a portion of the defunct less-than-truckload carrier’s leased properties raked in $83 million across 23 locations.

The first wave, which included 130 terminals — only two of which were leased — fetched nearly $1.9 billion.

Carriers that participated in the first auction again hold winning bids.

The recent auction, which included winning bids from just six...

Where did Yellow’s freight go?

The third-quarter earnings season showed all publicly traded less-than-truckload carriers experienced some type of bump following Yellow’s exit. If it was a competition, Saia was the winner.

While there’s a little noise in the numbers, the sequential progression from the second to the third quarters is a good yardstick of how Yellow’s $5 billion freight share was redistributed. Yellow had been teetering for years but as tensions rose with its union workforce in the June-July time frame, shippers...
