USACE and owner work to raise barge that sank in Kentucky Lock

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District has been working with Terral River Service to clear a barge from Kentucky Lock’s chamber that sank at approximately 7:30 a.m. Saturday, June 11.

Kentucky Lock is located near Gilbertsville, Ky, 22.4 miles from the confluence of the Tennessee and Ohio Rivers. It is 20 miles east of Paducah, Ky.

According to lockmaster Caleb Skinner, Terral River Service plans to refloat the barge today, Tuesday, June 14.

Conrad Shipyard expects to deliver first YRBM barge in 2023

NTSB: Fatigue crack caused Alaska grounding

A fatigue crack ultimately led to a fishing tender barge breaking loose from its mooring buoy and grounding during a storm near Ekuk, Alaska, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said in a Marine Investigation Report released Tuesday.

Storm blamed for barge crashing into Virginia transmission tower

Dominion Energy is currently evaluating a transmission tower in southeastern Virginia that was struck by a barge during a Monday morning rainstorm, according to a report from WTKR in Norfolk.

The Chesapeake Fire Department said the tower is on the Elizabeth River, just north of the High Rise Bridge on Interstate 64. This is just south of Norfolk. The fire department got the call about the accident at 9:36 a.m. Monday.
