Ryder buys logistics tech startup Baton, which it had invested in previously

Ryder is acquiring Baton, a company it had already invested in through its Ryder Ventures arm that targets giving the fleet rental and supply chain management giant a stake into logistics-focused startups.

In a statement announcing the acquisition, Ryder (NYSE: R) said it invested in Baton early in 2021. The acquisition of the full company was closed Aug. 31.

Digital drop-freight platform Baton lays off 25% of workforce

Digital drop-freight platform Baton confirmed that it has cut about 25% of its workforce, which included five corporate employees who supported the operational leg of the company as well as about 11 drivers. 

Baton founders Nate Robert and Andrew Berberick said Tuesday the move comes as the San Francisco-based company looks to pivot its business to focus on its core product, its Radius artificial intelligence transportation management system.

Baton cites specific savings in latest relay yard experiment results

Austin, Texas-based 8VC, a venture firm within the logistics industry, has submitted filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for two new venture capital funds this week. Baton’s Andrus partnership: A lesson in effectively addressing dwell time

Andrus Transportation Service Inc., a trucking company based in Utah, announced it has partnered with Baton, a final-mile logistics platform. The partnership comes after a successful 30-day pilot program that reduced the dwell time, or wait time, the company experienced in Los Angeles.
