Nikola stats show H2-powered trucking is for real

Nikola has delivered 75 hydrogen-powered fuel cell trucks to customers. It has an order bank that should begin to produce meaningful revenue. Now it is producing statistical evidence that hydrogen-powered trucking is not just for show.

Bus and battery maker Proterra exits SPAC with $640M payout

Electric bus and battery maker Proterra Inc. begins its life as a publicly traded company Wednesday, ringing the bell on the Nasdaq as it collects a $640 million payout from its special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) sponsor.

But Proterra CEO Jack Allen said more than money was involved with Proterra’s choice to take the shortest route to the market where it will trade under the Nasdaq ticker symbol PTRA.

Going farther: Nikola claims superior Class 8 electric driving range

Nikola Corp. (NASDAQ: NKLA) is showing its battery-electric Class 8 Tre prototype to fleets, seeking launch customers who want more than one or two trucks to test.

The Phoenix-based startup is sticking with its estimate of delivering 50 to 100 Class 8 battery-electric trucks in the fourth quarter. But CEO Mark Russell, speaking on a Q1 earnings call Friday, said supply constraints for a variety of parts could reduce that number. Microchips  and touchscreens are particular concerns.
