CN to invest $310 million in Ontario assets

Canadian railway CN (NYSE: CNI) expects to spend C$310 million in capital improvements across the Province of Ontario in 2020. (The Canadian dollar is currently valued at US$0.73.)

CN plans nearly C$1 billion in capital projects

Canadian railway CN (NYSE: CNI) is investing C$985 million (US$720.1 million) in capital improvement projects in the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia and Quebec in 2020.

Class 1 railroads may make some cost-cutting measures permanent

The Class I railroads are considering retaining some of the measures they implemented to scale down operations as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, according to comments some executives have made at recent industry conferences.

CN benefits from British Columbia’s growing propane exports

Three vessels carrying Canadian propane destined for international markets departed from AltaGas’ Ridley Island Propane Export Terminal on Thursday, beating a previous record by 50%, according to CN (NYSE: CNI). CN exclusively serves the facilities at the Port of Prince Rupert, which is where the AltaGas Ridley Terminal is located.

Canadian railroads shatter previous May grain records

Canadian Pacific (NYSE: CP) and CN (NYSE: CNI) beat previous records for grain volumes hauled in May despite the coronavirus pandemic.

CP hauled 2.8 million metric tonnes (MMT) of Canadian grain and grain products in May, beating a previous record set in May 2014 by more than 300,000 metric tonnes.

Canada’s Class I railroads ship record grain volumes in April

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic threatening to disrupt supply chain flows, the Canadian railways boasted record volumes of grain shipped in April.

Canadian National (NYSE: CNI) moved 2.73 million metric tonnes (mmt) in April, beating an April record of 2.72 mmt from 2019. The railway also moved 6.59 mmt in the first quarter of 2020, which the company said was its second-best first-quarter grain movement ever.

Toronto rail ramp change for exports to Newark & Phila

Effective 2 January, 2020, all Dry exports moving on the Canadian National Railway from the Toronto Brampton ramp and loading at the ports of Newark and Philadelphia were switched to begin departing from the Toronto Malport ramp.

Port of Quebec, Hutchison Ports and CN sign agreement for new container terminal
