Fire on Saipem pipe-layer resulted to 14 injuries

According to local reports, a pipe-laying vessel working in Azerbaijan for Italian oilfield service provider Saipem reportedly caught fire on Wednesday, May 8. The vessel was operating in Caspian Sea when the fire broke out.

Allegedly, Saipem commented on local sources that the pipe-laying vessel Israfil Huseynov, which was carrying out work for Saipem, caught fire on May 8, at about 18:30.

Oil shipments from Batumi port, Georgia fall to 51% in 2018

Oil and oil-related shipments from Georgia’s Black Sea port of Batumi fell 51.2 % in 2018 compared to 2017 according to Reuters. An amount of crude oil was re-routed to the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline and to the Caspian Pipeline Consortium in 2018, whereas some fuel oil was sent to the port of Taman in Russia and Georgia’s other Black Sea port of Kulevi.

Three crewmen die from poisoning on Iranian cargo ship

A total of 12 crew members onboard the Iranian cargo ship ‘Nazmehr’ suffered poisoning and three of theme died, according to information by Iran’s Ambassador to Baku as cited by local media.

The dry cargo ship was en route from Kazakhstan to Baku, Azerbaijan, loaded with grain, when the crew was sickened by an unspecified ‘chemical substance’ which was used to preserve the cargo. The incident was reported about 21 miles off the island of Pirallahi, in central Caspian Sea.
