Chittagong depots won’t handle boxes from non-payers Maersk and OOCL

The off-docks at Chittagong have stopped handling the containers of Maersk Line, OOCL and Gold Star Line, as part of a dispute over fees.
Since Wednesday morning, the depots have provided no service to these shipping lines, which have a 20%-25% market share in transporting export cargo.

Bangladesh approves construction of ‘essential’ first deepwater port

Bangladesh’s top decision-making body, ECNEC, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, last week approved construction of country’s first deepsea port, in Matarbari, near Cox’s Bazar.

DP World unveils $1bn Bangladesh logistics infrastructure investment plan

Dubai-based terminal operator DP World wants to invest US$1bn in Bangladesh’s container supply chain infrastructure, including ports, rail network and inland container terminals.
The global port giant has tabled a formal proposal to Bangladesh’s government after a meeting organised with the Dubai Chamber last month.

Bangladesh shippers hard hit by low-sulphur bunker fuel surcharges

Shippers in Bangladesh sending a 40ft container from Chittagong to the deepsea transhipment hubs of Colombo and Singapore must pay a $100 per  box bunker adjustment factor (BAF) low-sulphur surcharge.

Chittagong port ready for a business boost as connectivity expands

Chittagong port officials think its hinterland connectivity will improve significantly this year, boosting its handling capacity and facilitating trade.
Last year, the port handled just over three million teu of containers, up 6.34% on 2018, along with 103m tonnes of bulk cargo, up 7%.

Win-win deal between SL and Bangladesh

Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have finalized the much awaited Coastal Shipping Agreement, and it will be signed shortly, Development Strategies and International Trade Minister Malik Samarawickrama told a recent forum in Colombo.
