Bio-LNG Bunkering In Rotterdam was A “One-Off”

The use of biomethane in Total’s first bunkering of the CMA CGM Jacques Saade at Rotterdam earlier this month was a ‘one-off’ rather than a regular part for the container line, according to an article published in Ship & Bunker.

About 13% of the 17,300 m3 of LNG Total supplied to the new gas powered boxship was biomethane.

Spokesperson’s Comment

“This biomethane is a one-off, delivered as a spot contract, but a world premiere scale and promising one.”

“We will consider biomethane for future...

Maersk’s vision of fuel in the future, does not include the fuel of the future

When class society DNV GL labelled LNG as the fuel of the future, some eight years ago, the group became tied to the phrase. Today, DNV GL and others remain confident that LNG will prove to be a transitional fuel to achieve emission targets.

That was a view that informed the delegates’ discussions as the International Maritime Organization (IMO) met in mid-November discussing, among other things, the transitional period from fossil fuels to zero emission vessels. It is interesting to note that...

“This is supposed to be container shipping’s seasonal lull after the summer peak season,” said Josh Brazil, chief operations officer at Ocean Insights.
“But on some tradelanes, …

Carriers move to mitigate Tianjin reefer bottleneck

Major liner operators are imposing congestion surcharges for reefers bound for Tianjin port, as Chinese authorities step up Covid-19 checks on frozen food imports, causing delays to discharge cargoes.

The Covid-19 virus has been detected on imported food items from countries such as Ecuador and Brazil and has led the Chinese government to scrutinise cargo to prevent dockers from infection. As reefers are held up for inspection in Tianjin, all reefer plugs are fully utilised, preventing the...
