Coca-Cola charters bulk carriers as container conundrum continues

Following the lead of various other global brands, Coca-Cola recently announced chartering of bulk carriers for transportation of raw materials, amid the persistence of a tight race to find spots on container ships.

The announcement was made on 1 October by Coca-Cola’s procurement director, Alan Smith, on Linkedin. “When you can’t get containers or space due to the current ocean freight crisis, then we had to think outside the box (or the container),” noted Smith.

A2Z Drone Delivery, DroneUp complete commercial deliveries pilot

The first commercial deliveries by drone from A2Z Drone Delivery in collaboration with DroneUp have been completed, the companies announced.

The first deliveries featured cans of Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO) with Coffee delivered to residents of Coffee County, Georgia. DroneUp managed the flights using A2Z’s Rapid Delivery System (RDS1). Walmart (NYSE: WMT) helped facilitate the deliveries.

The RDS1 features a tether that drops packages to their destination, reducing what DroneUp calls “time-on-station”...

Texas Coca-Cola plant to close

The Coca-Cola plant in Grand Prairie, Texas, will close by April 15 as part of a consolidating effort by the company, according to a notice sent to state officials Friday.

As part of the consolidation, 76 workers will be laid off from the manufacturing, bottling and distribution plant.

The jobs being cut include truck drivers, warehouse workers and logistics managers.
