Maersk and Wallenius Wilhelmsen partner to test LEO fuel in shipping

AP Moller-Maersk and Wallenius Wilhelmsen have partnered to create LEO Coalition to explore the use of LEO fuel for sustainable shipping.

BMW Group, H&M Group, Levi Strauss, Marks & Spencer and Copenhagen University are also a part of the coalition.

Of the global CO₂ emissions, shipping contributes 2-3%. The figure is expected to rise as global trade increases steadily with almost 80% of the products being transported via ship.

Maqta Gateway and Etisalat partner for port digital innovation

UAE-based Abu Dhabi Ports’ subsidiary Maqta Gateway has partnered with UAE telecom company Etisalat to support digital innovation and connectivity in ports.

The partners will explore different technologies such as cloud computing, the Internet of things (IoT) and big data.

The partnership will focus on knowledge sharing, shared electronic project and network development, as well as operational risk management.

Norwegian Cruise Line receives delivery of Norwegian Encore

Norwegian Cruise Line has received the delivery of its latest cruise ship Norwegian Encore in Bremerhaven, Germany.

Part of the line’s Breakaway Plus class of vessels, Encore is 1,100ft-long and weighs 170,000 gross tonnes. It has the capacity to accommodate approximately 4,000 passengers.

The ship offers a race track, laser tag arena with augmented reality and theatre experiences in the Galaxy Pavilion.
