CRS releases new report on Constellation-class frigate program

The Congressional Research Service (CRS) on Dec. 19 released an updated report “Navy Constellation (FFG-62) Class Frigate Program: Background and Issues for Congress.”

The CRS reports provides a very detailed big picture view of the program but, with Congress ultimately calling the shots on what gets spent on any Navy shipbuilding program, it’s the “issues for Congress” part of the report that deserves special attention.

GAO: Design instability has stalled Constellation-class frigate construction

In a report prepared for the House Committee on Armed Services, the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) says that the Navy’s lead Constellation class guided missile class frigate is forecast to be delivered 36 month’s later than initially planned. SECNAV directs comprehensive Navy shipbuilding review

Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro has directed newly-confirmed Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development & Acquisition (ASN RD&A) Nickolas Guertin and Commander Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Vice Adm.
