NTSB reports on costly fishing vessel collision with containership

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) says that failure by its mate to maintain a proper lookout and conducting maintenance on critical equipment while underway led to an October 28, 2022 fishing vessel collision with an MSC containership.

No injuries were reported. Damage to the vessels was estimated at $6.25 million and the fishing vessel eventually sank..

COSCO signs up for containership methanol retrofits

COSCO Heavy Industry Shanghai Co. Ltd. has signed a contract with MAN Energy Solutions for the methanol retrofit of four main engines from COSCO Line 13,800 TEU Camellia class and 20,000 TEU Virgo class vessels. The vessels are currently powered by single-fuel MAN B&W 11S90ME-C10.5 engines that will be retrofitted to dual-fuel MAN B&W 11S90ME-LGIM10.5 units capable of operating on fuel-oil or methanol.

The ships will be the first vessels in COSCO’s fleet to sail on methanol.
