Royal Caribbean extends maintenance deal with Wärtsilä

Wärtsilä and Royal Caribbean Cruises (RCL) have extended an existing service agreement originally reached in 2013 until 2028.

As part of the original deal, Wärtsilä is using improved turbocharger maintenance to optimise the maintenance efficiency of 46 RCL ships.

Wärtsilä is also providing original equipment manufacturer (OEM) spare parts, workshop services and preferred technical assistance for the vessels.

Eesti Gaas selects Damen to build LNG bunker vessel

Estonia-based energy company Eesti Gaas has placed an order with Damen Group for the construction of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunker vessel.

The short-sea vessel will provide ship-to-ship LNG bunkering services to the LNG-fuelled vessels operating in the North-East region of the Baltic Sea and onshore clients.

Damen Yichang Shipyard in China will build the 99.80m-long and 18.60m-wide vessel, which will be designed to carry 6,000m³ of LNG in two type-C tanks at -163°C.

Van Oord consortium wins Świnoujście-Szczecin fairway expansion deal

A consortium of Van Oord and DEME Group subsidiary Dredging International has secured a €313m contract to upgrade the Świnoujście-Szczecin fairway in Poland.

The design and build contract will include the deepening and widening of the fairway along a 62km section to -12.5m from the current -10.5m.

The investment will be made by the Maritime Office in Szczecin with an aim to improve access to the Szczecin seaport and boost the port’s capacity to handle an increasing volume of cargo.

ABB to equip superyacht to boost sustainability and efficiency

Switzerland-based technology group ABB has been selected to deliver electric, digital and connected solutions for the new Project 790 superyacht built at the Nobiskrug shipyard in Germany.

The ABB solutions are expected to help the superyacht to meet the International Maritime Organization’s new ‘Tier III’ regulations.

The Ocean Cleanup selects Iridium as satellite communications provider

The Ocean Cleanup, a non-profit organisation that aims to remove plastic from oceans, has selected Iridium Communications as its preferred satellite communications services provider.

Under the deal, Iridium will provide L-band satellite broadband services in collaboration with its service provider, The AST Group.

International Seaways selects Clean Marine to install scrubbers

US-based shipping service provider International Seaways has awarded a contract to Norway’s Clean Marine to purchase and install exhaust gas cleaning systems (scrubbers) on seven of its very large crude carriers (VLCCs).
