Cargo Ship With 23 Seafarers Stuck in Port Since June

India’s merchant ship remains stuck at China’s northern ‘Jingtank’ port since June, reports TheHitavada.

What is the reason?

Indian Merchant ship ‘Jag Anand’, belonging to a Mumbai-based company Great Eastern Shipping Limited, is stuck in ‘Jingtank’ port since June.

The ship is loaded with around 1.70 lakh tonnes of Australian coal and is being stopped by Chinese port administration to unload cargo.

British port authorities have boarded six cruise ships anchored near London and Bristol.
This has raised serious concerns over the welfare of almost 1,500 crew stranded due to COVID-19.
The Astoria has been temporarily detained following reports to the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

A woman who jumped overboard and a man who apparently died by suicide are among four crew killed by non-coronavirus causes on cruise ships.
The string of deaths began on May 2, when a crew member died after falling overboard off the Royal Caribbean’s Jewel of the Seas.
The circumstances surrounded that death were not immediately clear and an investigation is ongoing.
