The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued the next phase of technical guidance under its Framework for Conditional Sailing Order (CSO). Though it marks another step forward by the CDC, it gives no date for a restart of cruising from the U.S, and it remains unclear whether it is a sufficient advance to enable cruise lines to get the July restart date they have been looking for.

CDC releases framework for phased resumption of cruising

Cruise line stocks soared today as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a framework for a phased resumption of cruise ship passenger operations.

Still burning cash, Carnival hopes for resumption of U.S. cruises this year

In a business update released today, the world’s largest cruise ship operator, Carnival Corporation & plc (NYSE/LSE: CCL; NYSE: CUK) reported that its monthly average cash burn rate for the third quarter 2020 was $770 million, in line with what had been anticipated. It now expects the monthly average cash burn rate for the fourth quarter of 2020 to be approximately $530 million. This results in an average monthly burn rate for the second half of the year of $650 million as previously disclosed.
